Vision boards, are they necessary?
What are Vision Boards and are they necessary, or just a huge waste of time?
In my upcoming first private podcast episode, I will share about the importance of Vision Boards for me. We may be halfway through the year, but vision board-ing is a constant process. As humans, we adapt and change to our environments. So change is inevitable. I created my board from scraps and cardboard and made little moveable slips of paper from my mail and print trash stuck with blue-tack. This way I could move them in an out, and throw away the ones that no longer apply.
The other day, I took it out to show a friend who hadn’t yet made one. I was embarrassed at how scrappy it looked, but not embarrassed at all when I saw the number of things I had actually achieved. It was an emotional and slightly surprising moment.
You may ask, what is the point if we will change our goals, and dreams and tasks anyway? What good will a vision board do if change is something we should expect? Good Q! I think it boils down to a few reasons. One, the process forced me to contemplate my life in general. Seeing the overview helps me see how much time or resources realistically do I have to accomplish the tasks or reach for my dream. Two, accountability. You only have to answer to one person, that is, yourself. Change it up anytime, but having it down at some point helps you keep track of your own little successes. It is hugely encouraging to look at it when you have a bad day. Three, and possibly the most important of the three, it made me delve deeper into the question of ‘why’. Why do I create? What gives me joy? What would I do for nothing? And then why (again)?
You’ve heard this before. What is your why? This could be a huge question with so much loaded into it. How and where do you start creating your vision board? These are exciting but also big questions. So I created a workbook for you to guide you through the simple steps I took personally to get an overview of my why, my dreams, goals, and then the action steps leading from them. It’s free to download together with my private podcast (link will be sent to your inbox with a password) to guide you along with it when you subscribe to my newsletter.
Have you made a vision board? You could share it with me on instagram, privately or tag me in stories/posts. We can celebrate together! But feel free to also keep it safe and quiet with you and involve only one or two trusted friends for accountability. Whether you share it or not, I’m proud of you for creating one, or even courageously just asking these big, wonderful questions that can be difficult but beautiful. I hope you are proud of yourself too! It’s just the start.
